Sarah Jane Parton, one of our much valued coordinators, will sadly be leaving Aro Valley Community Centre on the 5th of May. She has been with the AVCC since March last year, but is heading overseas with her family for a few months and then taking on some new projects that will leave her too busy to continue on as a coordinator.
The Aro Valley Fair is happening on Saturday the 26th of March and will
feature fantastic bands on two stages, stalls with food and crafts, and a
white elephant. This year it runs from 10am - 10pm, with an all ages gig in
the newly revamped hall from 6 - 10pm. Bands and musicians on the line up
include: The Family Cactus, Upper Hutt Posse, Eva Prowse, Seth Frigthening,
Terror of the Deep, Little Bark, Jessie James, and KazaamBLAM.
The stalls include some exciting textiles, pottery, baking, photography,
art, clothing, comics, and delicious food for eating on the day and for
We are still looking for volunteers to help with the running of the fair,
and if you're keen to help our with this community event please email
firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest and we'll get back to
you to discuss what you could do.
Would you like a stall at the Fair? There are still a few stall sites
available, and you can download an application here.
Bands confirmed so far include: Upper Hutt Posse, The Family Cactus, Eva
Prowse, and The Wall Street Jumpers, with many more to be announced.
In addition to our main stage there will also be an acoustic/low key stage
this year, with local groups performing.
Would you like a stall? At just $25, or $40 with a table, you're sure to
make a bit of money selling your crafts/yummy food/wares. Download a

Sparrow Construction have now finished their contract at the Aro Valley
Community Centre. They repiled the centre, put down a new Tasmanian Oak
floor, put in new bathrooms that are accessible from the foyer rather than
the hall, added a wheelchair ramp and handrails to the front of the centre,
and did a spot of painting.
The Wellington City Council's main contractors, City Care, are now moving in
to execute all of the 'renewals' planned for this year, including repaiting
the interior of the hall, installing better heating, and putting down some
carpet in the office. The exterior of the hall will be painted after the Aro
Valley Fair, and the hall may get a new, watertight roof in time for winter.
No date has been officially set for the completion of the renewals, but City
Care aim to complete the interior work by the date of the fair (the 26th of
March). In the meantime a few of our regular groups will start back in the
centre, and a few events will be taking place. We will let you know which
groups will be shifting from their temporary lcations as soon as we have
locked this information in!
We are right in the thick of organising the Aro Valley Fair 2011, which will
be happening on the 26th of March this year. Stay tuned to see our flash
poster (it's hot, courtesy of Mt Cook based artist Alice Baxter!) lining the
the streets of Te Aro.
